October 24, 2020 - We had Abby scheduled for earlier in the fall but rainy weather caused us to postpone her session.  I think it worked out wonderfully since we got to take advantage of the awesome fall colors.  We did the session at The Pinnacles and the pictures turned out amazing.  This one caught my eye since it almost looks like Abby was "Photoshopped" into the picture.

Scheduling Senior Sessions! https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2018/7/scheduling-senior-sessions

After taking a bit of a break after summer school, I have begun scheduling senior picture sessions for 2019 Seniors.  There are flowers blooming and it's not as hot as it was earlier in the summer.  Sessions can take place at multiple locations in the Centralia area.  The Mizzou College of Agriculture has a large sunflower field that is currently blooming!

Many of my clients have wanted to have pictures at more than one time of the year so I've made that an option.  A standard 2-hour session at multiple locations and multiple outfits is $200.  If you want to add on mini-sessions later on, it's only $50 extra each time.  A mini-session is 30-45 minutes and is only an option if a full session has been purchased.

If you want to take advantage of the beautiful scenery that's available, contact me at [email protected] or text me at 573-982-9316. (I typically don't answer calls from unknown numbers so, if you call, be sure to leave a message!)

Humphrey Family Portraits https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2017/7/humphrey-family-portraits

On July 20th, Terri and I traveled to Salisbury to meet up with the extended Humphrey family.  It was very warm and muggy so we stayed in the shade for the pictures (when we weren't in the AC cooling off).  We did multiple smaller groups with individual families, some close ups of a young one for canvas wall art, and some large group shots as well.

Despite the heat, we had a wonderful time with the Humphrey clan and I think we ended up with some great family portraits!  Click HERE to view more samples of their photo session.

For the 2016-2017 school year, I worked with eight Centralia seniors.  However, in addition to those eight Centralia students, I worked with five seniors from neighboring communities.  Those five non-Centralia seniors were from Columbia (1), Hallsville (2), and Cairo (2).  For the collages, I put Paige Kempker in with the Centralia kids since she grew up in Centralia close friends with my daughter, Mary.

Here are the 2017 seniors that T. Motley Photography worked with:

  1. Joe Brightwell
  2. Donovan Dowell
  3. Zach Townsend
  4. Paige Kempker

Motley Photography Back in 2013, I started taking photos at sports events full bore with my own camera and lens combo (after using a loaner set for years).  Since my son was a senior in 2013-2014, I took his senior pictures.  Along with Zach's pictures, I did senior pictures for five other Centralia seniors.  Here are the six Centralia 2014 seniors:

  1. Allison Colston
  2. Jordan Cooper
  3. Katie Crigler
  4. Zach Motley
  5. Rachel Bowne
  6. Tyler Roberts

Looking back on these photos, I may have overdone the eyes a bit.  This was my first "class" of seniors and it has led to many fun sessions year after year..

2017 Anchor Fest Car Show https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2017/6/2017-anchor-fest-car-show 2017 Anchor Fest Car ShowT. Motley Photography

Each year for the last three decades, there has been an increasingly popular car show held during the Centralia Anchor Fest.  The car show was started by Kenny Coolley and has become a very popular show in Missouri, attracting a wide range of cars, trucks, and motorcycles.  This year, it was raining a little but I still managed to get photos of most of the entries.

To view the photos from car show: http://www.tmotleyphotography.com/p368567538

Before the car show, I met up with Kenny Coolley and took some photos of three of his amazing automobiles.  The photos were used for the car show t-shirts and poster to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of Mr. Coolley starting the car show in Centralia.

CHS Girls Take Two From Moberly https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2016/1/chs-girls-take-two-from-moberly January 7, 2016 - The CHS Lady Panthers hosted the Moberly Spartans for JV and Varsity games.  In the JV game, Centralia's full-court defensive pressure was too much for the Spartans and Centralia won handily.  In the Varsity game, the first half was very close.  Centralia applied plenty of pressure defensively but Moberly handled it pretty well and made some key three-pointers.  At halftime, it was a two-point ballgame.  In the second half, Centralia upped the pressure and out-hustled the Spartans to win decisively.

I met up with Nick and his family uptown Centralia at an old building.  From there, we headed out to the Centralia Battlefield, back in to the Centralia football field, before finishing up at his family's farm.  I'll be getting back with Nick this spring during baseball season.

Working with Tanner and his mother was a fun time.  I've known his mom Gretchen for years (went to school with her).  For Tanner's pictures, we started out at some old sheds uptown, moved to some pretty fall leaves, to the square, and finished up at the football field.  I'll be getting back with Tanner during baseball season this spring.

Avery was a joy to work with.  I had worked with her twin sisters Becca & Riley previously (seniors in 2014).  We started out uptown, moved to a pretty tree scene, a farm fence, a grassy field, and finished at the Centralia Battlefield site.  The plan is to work with Avery again in the spring perhaps.

Centralia Girls Fall to Hallsville 44-40 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/12/centralia-girls-fall-to-hallsville-44-40 For some reason, I got confused on the start time of the girls game on Friday night.  I thought it started at 6:00 but it actually started at 5:00.  Since I didn't show up until the third quarter, I thought I'd shoot some shots from the stands rather than from the baseline.  It's certainly a different perspective.

Centralia 8th Grade Boys Completely Dominate Mexico 62-7 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/11/centralia-8th-grade-boys-completely-dominate-mexico-62-7 On November 25th, Centralia hosted the Mexico Bulldogs in an 8th grade boys basketball contest.  Centralia jumped out to a quick lead at 10-0 before Mexico called a timeout.  After the timeout, Mexico hit two free throws and then a three-pointer to pull within 5 points at 10-5.  This happened about halfway through the first quarter.

Centralia put the clamps down on the Bulldogs and started pulling away.  Mexico wouldn't score for the rest of the first quarter and were also blanked in the second quarter.  Centralia led 28-5 at the break.  Starting the third quarter, Centralia buried a few three-pointers and continued their defensive dominance.  By the end of the third quarter, Centralia led 47-5.  Mexico wouldn't score again until about 3:15 left in the game.  Meanwhile, Centralia kept scoring making the final score 62-7.  I haven't seen as complete of a performance against a fairly solid team since... well, I can't remember.  Great job Panthers!

Centralia Falls to Orchard Farm https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/11/centralia-falls-to-orchard-farm In what would end up being their final game of the season, the Centralia Panther football team battled the Orchard Farm Eagles.  It was a cold and windy night at Orchard Farm High School and it took me the two hour drive back home to thaw out.  The Panthers hung with the Eagles for a half but had trouble containing a couple of Orchard Farm's skill players, especially #15.  Work hard in the off-season Panthers and come back strong next year.

Centralia Thumps Duchesne 35-6 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/10/centralia-thumps-duchesne-35-6 Friday night, the #4-seed Centralia Panthers hosted the #5-seed Duschesne Pioneers.  Based on the close seedings, you might have anticipated a close game as well.  You would have been mistaken.  Centralia pretty much controlled the game from start to finish.

After holding the Pioneers to a three and out punt on the first possession of the game, Centralia roughed the punter.  That both extended Duschesne's drive but fired them up a bit.  Centralia's defense held the Pioneers out of the endzone.  The Panthers then pounded the ball down the field, finishing the drive on a TD run by Klayton Marty at 3:00 left in the first quarter.  Salisbury tacked on the PAT to make it 7-0.

Centralia's defense held Duchesne to another three and out.  The Panthers struck quickly on their next drive with Logan Armontrout throwing a touchdown pass to Nick McCoy as time expired in the first quarter.  Again the PAT was good and Centralia was up 14-0 at the quarter.

After a bit of back and forth in the second quarter, Centralia struck again on a TD pass from Armontrout to Sam Hasekamp.  Salisbury again added the PAT and Centralia was up 21-0 at 4:32 left in the second quarter.  Centralia quickly got the ball back and struck yet again when Jackson Evans ran it in for a touchdown at 1:31 left in the first half.  After the PAT, Centralia led at the half 28-0.

Centralia received the second half kickoff, didn't get a first down, and punted to Duchesne.  Duchesne went backwards on their possession and punted the ball back to Centralia.  The punt went to Nick McCoy who jetted down the sideline for a punt return touchdown.  After the PAT, Centralia was up 35-0 at 7:20 in the third quarter and the mercy rule running clock went into effect.  The Pioneers got on the scoreboard with a long touchdown pass to #84 with less than a minute left in the third quarter.  After the failed PAT attempt, the rest of the game was back and forth with nobody scoring.  Final: CHS 35 Duchesne 6

The Panthers travel to St. James to take on Orchard Farm on Halloween.

Centralia Football Falls to Macon 42-35 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/10/centralia-football-falls-to-macon-42-35 In the final game of the regular season, the Centralia Panthers traveled to Macon to take on the Tigers.  Centralia pounded the ball all game long but Macon struck back with big plays.  Centralia had a great offensive game plan and executed it to perfection.  They moved the ball consistently all night.  Centralia was ahead or tied the entire game until giving up the go ahead touchdown with 0:12 left in the game.  Centralia will host Duchesne Friday night in their first district game.

Alli Massey Senior Portraits https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/10/alli-massey-senior-portraits When Terri and I moved back to Centralia in 1997, we needed a sitter for Zach.  God introduced Tim and Tricia Massey into our lives.  It has been a pleasure and a blessing to know them and their family.  Taking senior pictures for Alli was like hanging out with family.  They turned out wonderfully.  There were so many 'keepers' that I felt the need to edit that it took me a bit longer than normal.  I think it was worth it...

Monroe City Tops Centralia 42-21 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/10/monroe-city-tops-centralia-42-21 Friday night, I headed up to Monroe City's new facilities to watch the Panthers battle the Panthers.  The new field turf was very nice and the lighting was conducive to photographs (although the lights seemed quite low).  There were a few stalled drives in the first quarter before Monroe City started off the scoring on a touchdown run by #25.  Their two-point conversion attempt failed making the score MC 6 CHS 0 with about one minute left in the first quarter.

Centralia answered quickly with multiple runs by Korbyn Steffen.  After moving the ball to inside the 10-yard line, Logan Armontrout capped off the drive with a touchdown run.  Riley Salisbury kicked the PAT to put Centralia up 7-6 with 10:40 left in the second quarter.  Not to be outdone, Monroe City struck back with a long run by #1.  This time the two-point conversion was successful and Monroe City was back on top 14-7 with 9:10 left in the first half.

Centralia couldn't move the ball on their next drive and punted the ball back to Monroe City.  The host Panthers moved the ball and scored on a pass to #14.  After the successful two-point conversion, Monroe City was up 22-7 with 1:39 left in the half.  Centralia's offense struck quickly in the last minute.  Armontrout completed a long pass to Zach Townsend to get Centralia inside the Monroe City five-yard line.  Armontrout then scored on a short run, Salisbury nailed the PAT, and the score at the half was MC 22 CHS 14.

To start the second half, Monroe City drove the ball very methodically, converting several third and long plays.  They scored at 4:53 but the two-point conversion attempt failed.  MC 28 CHS 14

On Centralia's next possession, Logan Armontrout broke off a long touchdown run.  Salisbury again nailed the PAT and Centralia pulled with seven points with 2:42 left in the third quarter.  After a few short drives back and forth, Monroe City drove the ball and finished off the drive with a touchdown run by #1.  The two-point attempt failed and Monroe City was up 34-21 at 6:09 left in the game.

With Centralia down two scores late in the game and passing most every down, Monroe City's #15 picked off an Armontrout pass and returned it for a touchdown.  After the two-point conversion was successful, Monroe City was up 42-21 with 5:49 left in the game.  That ended up being the final score.

Centralia Football Falls To Palmyra 32-14 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/10/centralia-football-falls-to-palmyra-32-14 After leading at halftime 6-0, Centralia kicked off to Palmyra to start the second half.  After holding the visiting Panthers to a quick three-and-out, Centralia couldn't move the ball either and punted back to Palmyra.  Centralia again held on defense and forced punting situation.  Palmyra executed a perfect fake punt and scored from about 70 yards out.  From there, the flood gates opened up.  The Centralia Panthers gave up 32 second half points to fall to 3-4 overall.

Centralia Cheerleaders Win State! https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/10/centralia-cheerleaders-win-state Since Terri is one of the coaches and my daughter Mary is one of the cheerleaders, I spent the better part of the day today at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Missouri.  Centralia was competing at the State Cheerleading Championships.  Centralia's routine was nearly flawless and they won STATE.  They beat a very good Brookfield squad who also had a mostly perfect routine.

Contratulations to all three coaches and some amazing girls!  Your hours of hard work paid off in awesome fashion.

I'll post some photos of the actual routines in the next day or two.  When they were announcing second place as Brookfield and then Centralia as winning first, I aimed my camera at the Centralia team and fired away.  There ended up being some cool reaction shots.  I also took some team photos before heading to Columbia and some team photos after the first place finish.

Centralia 8th Grade Football vs. Hallsville https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/10/centralia-8th-grade-football-vs-hallsville On September 30th, CBMS 8th grade played Hallsville.  While I was coaching, Terri took some pictures that turned out well.  Centralia didn't fare very well, losing to Hallsville 28-10.  Their record is now 2-1.

Up next for Centralia is a road trip to Bowling Green.  All 159 photos from the game are available here: http://www.tmotleyphotography.com/p385622573

Centralia Softball Falls to Monett 3-1 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/centralia-softball-falls-to-monett-3-1 In the championship game of their own tournament, the Centralia Panthers battled Monett before falling 3-1 to finish second.  Centralia's Haley Schmersahl pitched a solid game but the Panther bats were not able to muster enough runs to win.  Monett is a very solid Class 3 team with a 17-2 record (according to mshsaa.org).  Their two losses were to Willard and Bolivar who they have beaten in tournament play.

Mexico Bulldogs Defeat Centralia 52-7 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/mexico-bulldogs-crush-centralia-52-7 It's been a very long time since Centralia has been beaten by 35 or more points... 2005 perhaps.  I'll say it wasn't very fun to watch.  Mexico won every aspect of the game.  They never allowed Centralia to get anything going offensively and were extremely explosive themselves.

Centralia JV Football Wallops Bowling Green https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/centralia-jv-football-wallops-bowling-green

Centralia hosted the Bowling Green Bobcats in a junior varsity football game on September 22nd.  Centralia dominated the visitors in all facets of the game.  Multiple Centralia kids scored... so many that I lost track of it.  I know Andrew Moore scored twice, Kyland Dickerson scored once or twice, Jackson Evans scored twice, and I'm not sure about any others.  When I left at the start of the fourth quarter, the score was 40-0 and I was getting eaten up by mosquitoes.

Centralia Football Falls to South Shelby 35-34 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/centralia-football-falls-to-south-shelby-35-34

On Homecoming, the Centralia Panthers hosted the South Shelby Cardinals.  The Panthers started off quickly after receiving the opening kickoff.  Taylor Burton had a long run to set up an Ethan Leighton touchdown.  The PAT was good and less than a minute into the game, Centralia led 7-0.  South Shelby came right back on tough runs and capped the quick drive with a Trace Windsor 30-yard touchdown.  Centralia blocked the PAT making it 7-6 barely four minutes into the game.

After a CHS punt, the Cardinals again mowed down the field to another Windsor touchdown run, Brett Threlkeld added the two-point conversion and at 3:30 in the first quarter, South led 14-7.  Centralia again was held to a very quick three and out and punted back to the Cardinals.  Trace Windsor again broke loose, this time on a 68-yard touchdown run.  After the PAT, South was up 21-7 with 2:00 left in the first quarter.  The first quarter scoring wasn't quite done as Centralia quickly marched down the field and Ethan Leighton sprinted in for a 49-yard touchdown with 54.2 seconds left in the first quarter.  After the first quarter, South Shelby was up 21-14.

Centralia finally held the Cardinals and force a punt.  After a good return, Logan Armontrout ran in for a touchdown.  The PAT made the score tied at 21 with 7:36 left in the first half.  Centralia's defense once again held the Cardinals and forced another punt.  After a personal foul penalty backed the Panthers deep, a fumble was scooped and ran in for the Cardinals making the score 28-21 South with 5:05 left in the second quarter.  The next drive by the Panthers was capped by an Armontrout touchdown run and, after the PAT, the score was tied at 28 with 2:46 left in the second quarter.  That would be the halftime score.

In the third quarter, Centralia struck first on a Leighton touchdown run.  The PAT failed and Centralia led 34-28 with 1:11 left in the third quarter.  In the fourth quarter, Windsor again scored for South Shelby.  They made the PAT and South was up 35-34 with 10:12 left in the game.  Both teams would go back and forth the rest of the game but that ended up being the final score.  SS 35 CHS 34

Centralia 8th Grade Football Tops Palmyra 14-8 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/centralia-8th-grade-football-tops-palmyra-14-8

On Tuesday, September 16th, the CBMS Panther football team hosted the Palmyra Panthers.  While I was coaching, my lovely wife took some pictures.

Centralia allowed an early score and two-point conversion and then went back and forth with Palmyra for the rest of the half.  The score at halftime was 8-0 Palmyra.

In the second half, Centralia effectively shut down the Palmyra offense and started moving the ball better on their own.  Their scores came on two long TD passes to Chandler Randolph, one from Caden Vanskike and one from Gus Stidham.  All three lines were involved with lengthy drives that helped with the win.  Leading blockers for Centralia were AJ Tuggle, Quentin Foster, Matt Andrews, Tyler Reinerd, and Christian Barrett.

Also greatly assisting the victory were stellar onside kicks by Elijah Crutchfield.  All three were close to being recovered and one actually was recovered by Jayce England.  Centralia travels to Macon on Tuesday.

In their second game of the day after losing a nail-biter to Marceline, the CBMS Panthers took on the North Callaway Thunderbirds.  It started off being a defensive struggle with both pitchers keeping the batters unsteady.  Eventually, while Centralia pitcher Gwendolyn Bostick stayed rock solid from the mound, Panther hitters got to the North Callaway pitchers.  After being down 1-0 early, the Panthers run ruled the Thunderbirds to win the game.

Centralia (CBMS) Panthers Lose Close Game to Marceline https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/centralia-cbms-panthers-lose-close-game-to-marceline

The softball program at Centralia is a dynasty.  While the high school team has won three consecutive State Championships, the middle school teams have been routinely going undefeated in regular season play.  In the CBMS Tournament at Bicentennial Park, the competition was tough and games were shortened due to one of the fields needing extra work.

The CBMS Panthers lost a nail-biter to Marceline in their first game of the tournament.  At the time limit with a tie score, each team took a turn at bat with a runner at second base to start the inning.  Marceline scored one run while holding Centralia scoreless in that inning.

Brookfield Bulldogs Beat Centralia 40-7 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/brookfield-bulldogs-beat-centralia-40-7

Going into Friday night's game against Brookfield, I had heard that the Bulldogs had a lot of speed at the skill positions.  They proved to be too explosive for the Panthers to handle.  Centralia moved the ball slowly running behind their sizable line.  Brookfield scored quickly on offense and added two returns for touchdowns as well, a fumble return and an interception return.

Brookfield scored first after stopping Centralia on the Panthers' first possession.  The Bulldogs scored on a pass play to #6 and kicked the PAT making the score midway through the first quarter 7-0.  On Centralia's next possession, they powered the ball down the field on runs by Leighton and Armontrout with an occasional jet to Burton.  After the long drive, Leighton ran it in for the touchdown, Salisbury kicked the PAT, and it was tied at 7 midway through the second quarter.

On Brookfield's next drive, #38 broke through the Panther line and sprinted in for the touchdown.  Again the PAT was good Brookfield was back on top 14-7.  Brookfield stopped Centralia and scored once more before halftime on a long TD pass again to #6 but they missed the PAT making the halftime score 20-7.

In the third quarter, #38 ran in another touchdown.  The 2-point conversion attempt failed and Brookfield led 26-7 midway through the third.  Centralia drove the ball down to the Bulldog 12-yard line before turning the ball over.  A seemingly incomplete pass was ruled a fumble and Brookfield's #6 returned it for a touchdown.  After the PAT, Brookfield was up 33-7 with about a minute left in the third quarter.

Later in the fourth quarter, Centralia was again driving deep into Brookfield territory when an Armontrout pass was intercepted by #6 and returned for a touchdown.  The PAT was good and Brookfield was up 40-7 with 4:31 left in the game.  That ended up being the final score.

On Thursday, September 11th, the Centralia hosted the Blair Oaks Falcons in a 9th grade matchup.  The first half was a lot of back and forth down the field but only Blair Oaks punched it in.  They missed the PAT and had a 6-0 lead at the half.  In the third quarter, Centralia dominated, scoring three times to take a 22-6 lead late into the fourth quarter.  With about 3:00 left on the clock, Blair Oaks mounted a comeback, scoring twice in the waning moments.  Thankfully, Centralia's defense held on the 2-point conversion attempt to preserve the victory.

Centralia Panthers FB 49 Louisiana 0 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/centralia-panthers-fb-49-louisiana-0

The Centralia Panther football team hosted the Louisiana Bulldogs September 5th at Miller Field.  The field was in great shape but the sky was somewhat ominous.  The rain and lightning held off until halftime.  The fireworks started early for the Bulldogs.  On one of their first plays on offense, #32 Lane Rule broke loose and ran all the way inside Centralia's 10-yard line.  However, he fumbled at the end of the run and Centralia took over.

Centralia quickly moved down the field and Ethan Leighton ran in for at touchdown at 10:36 in the first quarter.  Riley Salisbury tacked on the PAT and Centralia was up 7-0 early.  A quick stop by the Panther defense followed by another quick Centralia drive led to Leighton's second touchdown run at 6:59 in the first quarter.  Again Salisbury's PAT was good and Centralia led 14-0.

Louisiana gave the ball back to Centralia and the Panther offense again mowed down the field.  The drive was capped by another Leighton touchdown run at 2:38 in the first quarter.  Centralia went for two after the touchdown and Zach Townsend ran it in.  Panthers were up 22-0.  Interestingly, that was the halftime score.  The second quarter was eaten up by drives by Louisiana that stalled out once they got very far into Panther territory.

Halftime was dramatically extended due to lightning.  Halftime began at 8:07 p.m. but the second half did not resume until around 9:37 p.m.  Excitingly, Centralia scored at 9:38 p.m. when, on the first play of the second half, Ethan Leighton broke off a long touchdown run.  The PAT failed at Centralia was up 28-0 with 11:47 left in the third quarter.

On their first play of the second half, Louisiana fumbled the ball to Centralia.  Centralia scored almost instantly on yet another Leighton touchdown run at 9:53 left in the third quarter.  The PAT by Salisbury was good and the it was 35-0.  Like a broken record, Louisiana again fumbled back to Centralia leading to Leighton's sixth touchdown run at 7:50 left in the third quarter.  PAT was good and Centralia was up 42-0.

The rest of the game was played under the mercy rule running clock on Centralia running the ball exclusively up the middle.  That didn't stop Austin Creason from scoring a rushing touchdown with 10:33 left in the fourth quarter.  PAT was good and Centralia led 49-0.  Louisiana threatened to score near the end of the game but Andrew Moore intercepted the ball inside the Panther 10-yard line to preserve the shutout.

Centralia Volleyball Beats Battle 2-0 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/9/centralia-volleyball-beats-battle-2-0

The Centralia Panther volleyball team hosted Battle Thursday, September 4th at Centralia High School.  Just like the JV team, Battle's squad had numerous tall and athletic players.  What Centralia may have lacked in height, they more than made up for with their skill and tenacity.  Centralia won the first game 25-13 and won the second game 25-12.  While Battle did string a few points together here and there, the outcome was never really in doubt.  This looks to be another exciting season of Centralia volleyball.  Come out and support your Panther volleyball team!  You won't be disappointed.

I made a hasty dash from football practice to the softball field to get some shots of the Lady Panther softball game against the Highland Cougars.  I missed a bulk of the JV game but arrived in time to get a few photos.

In a Junior Varsity contest, the visiting Palmyra Panthers nipped the host Centralia Panthers 14-7.  It was a close game throughout and Centralia battled until the very end.  It seemed that Palmyra had bigger kids at just about every position but Centralia held their own.

Centralia Panthers 34 Clark County 0 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/8/centralia-panthers-34-clark-county-0

I rode up to Kahoka with my friend Shelli Gordon and her kiddos.  After the 2-hour drive, we arrive at Clark County High School to find a wet, boggy field.  Despite the large amount of rain, the field held up quite well.  The muddy conditions did make taking pictures a bit of a challenge however.  My camera had trouble finding something 'contrasty' to focus on at times.

I normally use my tweets to keep others updated on Centralia games but also, later when I'm discussing the game, I use my tweets to refresh my memory.  Sadly, my cellular signal in Kahoka was quite lacking.  I'll do my best to summarize the scoring.

The Panthers took the opening kickoff and marched down the field, mostly on runs from Leighton.  An Armontrout to Hasekamp pass over the middle ("TIGHT END PASS OVER THE MIDDLE!") started the scoring for the Panthers.  Salisbury tacked on the PAT and Centralia was up 7-0 early in the first.  After a first down or two, Clark County punted to Centralia heading into the first official heat-related water break at 4:27 in the first.

Centralia's second score came on a 60-yard bomb from Armontrout to McCoy.  Salisbury again made the PAT.  The first quarter ended with Centralia up 14-0.  Centralia's offense slowed down a bit in the second quarter until Armontrout broke free on a long touchdown run at 3:05 left in the half.  After the successful PAT, Centralia was up 21-0 and that ended up being the halftime score.

In the second half, the teams with back and forth down the field but nobody could punch in a score.  After a Panther drive ended deep in Indian territory, Donovan Dowel picked on a Clark County pass and returned it for a touchdown.  The PAT was not successful, making the score 27-0 with 7:33 left in the game.  The final score came on a Leighton touchdown run with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter.  The PAT was good making the final score 34-0.

Up next for the Panthers is a home game against the Lousiana Bulldogs.

I attended the opening freshmen game of the season to watch my team from last year take on the Fulton Hornets.  It was fun to see how the kids have matured physically since last year.  They make a very solid group.  It was also nice to have several of the players thank me for taking pictures.

Centralia Panthers 42 Highland Cougars 6 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/8/centralia-panthers-42-highland-cougars-6

I attended the opening game of the 2014 Centralia Panther football season last night.  The temperature and humidity made it fairly miserable for me just standing on the sideline.  I can only imagine how horrible it was for the players.  The Panthers were hosting the Highland Cougars.  Upon glancing at the program I was handed on the way in, I pretty much could predict the outcome.  Centralia's roster filled up the whole left half of the program while Highland's roster barely filled up a third of the right half.

The Panthers moved the ball pretty much at will on offense.  Ethan Leighton started off the scoring with a TD run at 9:42 in the first quarter.  Riley Salisbury's PAT was good making it 7-0 early.  After a Korbyn Steffen INT, Leighton ran in another TD at 7:42 in the first.  Salisbury again nailed the PAT making it 14-0.  On Highland's next possession, Logan Armontrout hauled in an INT leading into the first water break.

Coming out of the water break, Steffen broke off a long run and then Armontrout ran in for the TD at 5:38 in the first.  The PAT was again good making it 21-0.  Another stop by the defense and then Armontrout burst through the line and scored on a long TD run at 3:40 in the first.  Salisbury remained perfect on the night on the PAT making the score 28-0.  The final score of the quarter came after a Taylor Burton long catch and run.  Leighton bulled his way into the end zone with less than 10 seconds left in the first quarter.  PAT was good making the score 35-0 at the end of the first.

At the beginning of the second quarter, the dominant Panther defense held the Cougars, forcing a punt from deep in their own territory.  Nick McCoy gathered in the punt and sprinted around the right side in front of the Panther sideline.  After a sweet juke move inside the 10, McCoy finished the return scoring Centralia's sixth touchdown with 10:37 left in the second quarter.  Salisbury capped the Panther scoring with the PAT making it 42-0.  Centralia subbed generously the rest of the way.  The lopsided score allowed a bunch of playing time for most every Panther on the sidelines.

Pictures from the game can be found here: http://www.tmotleyphotography.com/p1051814724

Up next for the Panthers is a long road trip to Kahoka to take on the Clark County Indians.  Clark is coming off a 40-22 loss to the Monroe City Panthers.

Sylvia Romine Senior Portraits https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/8/sylvia-romine-senior-portraits

On July 31, 2014, shortly before heading off to Mexico on a mission trip, I met up with senior Sylvia Romine for some portraits.  We started off at Union Covered Bridge, then to her mom's lovely flowers, and finished off on a farm in front of a classic white fence.  I ended up with an incredible amount of "keepers" so Sylvia will have to make some decisions when it comes to prints.

It's always a pleasure working with great models such as Sylvia.  She literally didn't have any bad shots unless it was just my mistake on a camera setting.  Thanks Sylvia!

Minnesota Vacation at Cox Cabin https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/7/minnesota-vacation-at-cox-cabin

In late July, my family drove up to my sister Toma's cabin on Long Lake in Minnesota.  We spent a week playing in the water, tubing (kids, not me), animal watching, and visiting the Mississippi Headwaters at Itasca National Park.  We all had a great time, relaxing the week away.  Thanks to Toma, John, JT, and Carrie for being such great hosts!

The photo shown is one I took at Itasca National Park.  The sites there are pretty awe-inspiring.  All of the photos that I tweaked are available HERE.

A Long Hot Day at the Pool... Worth It! https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/7/a-long-hot-day-at-the-pool-worth-it

On July 12th, I met up with the Centralia Hurricanes swim team at their huge conference swim meet at the Centralia Municipal Swimming Pool.  The meet started around 8:00 a.m. and finished around 4:30 p.m.  Thankfully, the beginning part of the meet was overcast occasionally or I would have wilted during the hotter parts.

With ample light available, I was able to capture many great action shots of the swimmers.  After I recovered from the day, I spent quite a bit of time on the editing... mostly because of the volume of photos.  There ended up being over 800 photos available for purchase.

All of the photos are available in two large galleries HERE and can be downloaded for $2/photo.

June Vacation and Beyond https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/7/june-vacation-and-beyond Combo photoOffered in 11x14 prints

Since June was consumed with summer school activities and middle school football camp, I didn't really do any photography work this whole past month.  The only real photos I took were when my son Zach officially was sworn in to the Navy Reserves but those were just personal photos.

On July 2nd (my birthday), I met up with the Centralia Hurricanes swim team for some individual and team photos.  The sun was a bit bright at 7:30-8:30 in the morning but we persevered!  All photos have been edited and sent off for printing.  My favorite photo style (shown above) was the 'combo' I offered which combined the team photo (is there a weight limit on the baby slides?) and the individual photo.  Some families chose to have their children get their pictures taken together for their individual shot.  The photo below was a great example of true sisterly affection.

Up next is a big swim meet in Centralia all day July 12th.  Should be a full day!

Anchor Fest Car Show 2014 https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/6/anchor-fest-car-show-2014 This morning, I wandered up to the square to visit the annual Anchor Fest Car Show.  Every year, it seems like more and more cars, trucks, and motorcycles show up.  It is a very impressive collection of vehicles.  The owners of these cars take great pride in their work and it shows.  There are vehicles ranging from old Model A's to brand new Jeeps.

I took a bunch of photos but honestly I probably didn't photograph even half of the automobiles there.  Entries were still pulling in to get judged and some cars had so many people around them I couldn't get a good photo.  For car buffs, I highly recommend you to check out next year's Anchor Fest Car Show!

Here was the most insane motor I've seen on a car.

Chance Gardens https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/5/chance-gardens Up by the Centralia Museum (that my mother Marjorie Motley is the director of), there are two gardens.  There is a Rose Garden and then Chance Gardens.  Both are maintained by Jim Lee I believe and they are commonly used for portraits because of their breathtaking beauty.  When the flowers are blooming, it is something to behold.  My photos don't do it justice.

The other day, I walked up to the Gardens to photograph some flowers.  I ended up spending quite a bit of time taking photos... of bees.  I'm normally afraid to get stung but I figured, "Surely these bees would rather be on a flower than stinging me."

Centralia High School Graduation https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/5/centralia-high-school-graduation My son Zach graduated from Centralia High School on May 18th.  The graduation ceremony was held at Miller Field at Centralia High School.  The weather was absolutely perfect.  I was a little worried when I heard that the proceedings were to be held outdoors.

I am quite proud of Zach for his hard work both in school and working multiple jobs.  He will be attending Missouri S&T in Rolla this fall.  While I am very proud of Zach, I am also proud of myself for not getting overly emotional.  Of course, when he leaves at the end of summer, I might end up crying like a little baby.

I took photos of the walking in, the speeches, the band performance, the choir performance, the top 10, the diplomas, the walking out, and then took some photos of family and friends.  I can't pass up the opportunity to share/brag on my family.

Tyler Roberts Baseball Portraits https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/5/tyler-roberts-baseball-portraits I met up with senior Tyler Roberts and his family, Ronnie, Tracie, and Trevor.  I got some action photos of Tyler pitching and fielding and then took some portraits.  I went to school at Centralia with Ronnie and Tracie and my son is in the same grade as Tyler so it was a very comfortable session.  It was nice to be able to get up close on the pitching without risking getting hit by the ball.  I put together a few collage/sports card style photos and I think they turned out pretty well.

I've known Jordan for years now (as his 7th grade math teacher and father of his close friend) so things went exceptionally smooth.  It was a pleasure working with both Jordan and Gina (Jordan's mother).  Here is my favorite image from the two-day portrait session.

Once Upon a Mattress https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/4/once-upon-a-mattress Leah Rolfson, as music director at Centralia High School, organized the 2014 musical "Once Upon a Mattress."  My daughter Mary played a pivotal role in the production, playing the character of Winnifred.  The play was variation of the classic Princess and the Pea.  It featured great music, acting, and production.  While the lighting was certainly less than desirable for photography, I still managed to capture some decent images.

Here is one of my favorites from the evening.  I wonder who it is?

Centralia Baseball Seniors https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/3/centralia-baseball-seniors After the long-lasting chill I had from shooting the baseball games last week, I got together with the senior baseball players from Centralia.  With my son being the same age, I know all of these guys quite well.  Additionally, I taught all of them math in seventh grade.  I took a few team photos and then some individual shots as well.  After a week of on-and-off editing, I ended up with some pretty cool shots.

All of these photos can be viewed HERE and can be purchased either as part of a print/digital package or on a per print basis.  Parents of these players can contact me at [email protected] for more details or if you have any questions.

Cold Start to Baseball Season https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2014/3/cold-start-to-baseball-season

I stepped out of my front door and it felt pretty nice so I thought it would be fine to wear shorts and a hoodie.  When I arrived at the baseball field and felt the bone chilling 25-mph wind, I quickly realized my mistake.  Thankfully, I could simply drive back home and get more appropriately dressed.

I shot some action photos from the Centralia vs. Mark Twain baseball game on the first day of the 2014 season.  Centralia completely dominated the game from start to finish after completed dominating their first opponent, the South Shelby Cardinals.  Photos from the game are available HERE and photos can be downloaded for $3 per photo.

Focus on the Positives https://www.tmotleyphotography.com/blog/2013/12/focus-on-the-positives

Here's a project I did for Mike Lincoln before Christmas.  It was a very cool collage of a bunch of football photos taken over the course of this past Centralia Panther football season.  It turned out very well if I do say so myself.

After fighting the last couple weeks with getting my camera to focus consistently, I finally sent it in to get properly calibrated.  I didn't like having to wonder if it would focus correctly and I didn't like having to fine tune the auto-focus for each lens so much.  I hope to have it back in a few weeks.

Until then, maybe I'll use my old D40.  Of course, I'll have to relearn how to use it.  I'll also try to do some photo-editing of pictures I've previously taken.  I have to do something to pass the time...

A few weeks before Christmas, my wife Terri and I traveled to Tri-City Lake and Sturgeon for some family and individual photos with the Schultz family.  While some group photos were part of the session, the emphasis was on Charlee who is finishing 8th grade.  The family was a pleasure to work with, both during the session and during the print ordering process.
